Minneapolis Modern

This new 2,330 finished square foot home, located within 5-minutes of downtown urban Minneapolis custom home, was designed for a young family that wanted a modern, but warm and inviting home. The subdivided site presented a challenging pie shaped reversed corner lot. The careful siting of this contemporary home  of the home provides a strong connection between indoor and outdoor spaces while taking advantage of natural  light and park views light and with the irregular lot works to create two fronts to the home. One front of the home addresses the connection to a park across the street while the other front accommodates the informal and welcoming entry as well as an attached carport.

Two volumes are orientated to the southeast with park and downtown views and staggered in plan to follow the required zoning setbacks of the lot. The main level features contains the public spaces - a slight volume change in the living room defines the space while allowing for open space living that caters to the family’s energy. . Connection to the land was introduced by stepping down the patio to the grade to mimic the slight roll of the site. A simple material palette encourages continuity between the interior and exterior spaces and the use of clear western red cedar and solid walnut flooring create a feeling of warmth.
